Ahmad Al-Kabbany is an assistant professor in the Electronics and Communications Engineering Department of the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, and a researcher in image analysis, processing, and synthesis. In 2016, he received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Ottawa in Canada. During the PhD studies, his research focused on the enhancement of user experience in virtual environments. One of the algorithms he contributed was ranked, at the time, among the best seven techniques worldwide according to a standard benchmark in the respective field, Al-Kabbany’s first research-based software startup, VRapeutic, specializing in the development of therapeutic VR content, was chosen among the finalists (top ten ideas) at the MIT Arab Startup Competition in 2017. Al-Kabbany is also the founder and the organizer of the first AR/VR meetup in Egypt, which is held in Alexandria. The meetup aims at accelerating the growth of the field of immersive technologies in Egypt through: capacity building, networking, and awareness raising. Ahmad was chosen by a MO4 Network-a prominent media agency in the middle east-among the most impactful and inspiring Egyptians in 2017. Al-Kabbany is also the founder of the K-12 educational blog Khoaja.
